Prague Magic Show: Leeds Magician Kristian Treen
Headlining at the premiere of the Prague Magic Show on the eve of my 23rd birthday to a sold-out crowd was one of the best experiences of my life. To be the first magician from the UK to be invited to perform magic at the prestigious Illusion Bar in one of the most beautiful cities in the world was an absolutely incredible opportunity and one I will never forget. Before this, I'd never been to Prague before. It was a city that always appealed to me and I knew that I would visit one day. I just never thought that I'd be invited to performing magic there!
Alongside me in the line-up on the night were two absolutely brilliant Czech magicians - Jan Komberec and Filip Stružka. Both of these guys had incredible talent and I hope to work with you both again in the not-so-distant future. I'd just like to say a huge thank you to Martin Janda for organising everything and to Mikhail Spotkay and Desi Atanasova at Illusion Bar for making me feel so welcome. I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who sent messages of support from all around the world on various social media platforms. It was hugely appreciated.
Performing at the Prague Magic Show has developed me so much as a performer. I now have a brand-new full 30 minute act that I created especially for the night of performance. I cannot wait to share this show with many more audiences in the future. A lot of the material in this act I had never done before and never had I performed everything from the show in one continuous routine for a real, paying audience. I am extremely proud of myself and what I have accomplished. It took a lot of sustained, focused effort to achieve the finished product and I can honestly say it was all completely worth it. I came off stage to thunderous applause and heart-warming compliments that will stay with me forever. One lovely lady told me it was the best magic show she had seen.
Once the show was finished, the magic didn't stop. It was time for the afterparty where all the performers went around the tables and amazed audiences further with close-up magic. Here's some great footage that captures people's superb reactions to my signature finale of my card routine:
What happened next was a truly unforgettable sequence of events. After I had finished performing, Mikhail and Desi presented me with a glorious birthday cheesecake. Believe me, this cheesecake was on another level. Cheesecake demolished, it was then time to complete the Illusion Bar 'fire ritual' tradition. Absinthe was poured into a glass. A sugar cube was placed into the glass. A spoon was placed over the glass. The sugar cube was then soaked in absinthe and set on fire. I was then instructed to inhale the mixture and down the drink. I, obliged.
I returned to my hotel at around 3:30am.
I could not think of a better way to turn 23 than doing what I love in a city that will always hold a special place in my heart.
Until next time Prague,
